Public Education

One thing that we could all agree on is that there is no easy solution for this problem that has been going on forever. It is human nature to have a class system. I do not like it but it is a fact of life. It does not matter what kind of government we have because there will always be people that are poor and people that are wealthy. However, I really feel that if we, as a country, put more of our federal funds into our public education system we would greatly reduce this divide. When this years democratic candidates were asked if any of them had their own children in public schools, almost all said no. The ones that answered yes had their children in a public university or a public school in an economically advantaged area. I do not think we should make all the schools get the same amount of money no matter what their tax bracket is, but they all should get additional funding. Also, teachers should be getting payed at least $50,000 a year or more. Teaching isn't like any other job, when they have a weekend it is like ours where it really means do homework all weekend. For the amount of education they have to get, the least we could do as a society is say thanks by paying them better than a manager at McDonalds.

Your blog is very good you have made some very good points. I also would have to agree on the pay of our teachers it is unfair but if we dont just come together as a whole it will probably stay the same.

I'm not sure that I agree that class systems are a part of human nature. If they are a part of human nature, they are a rather disturbing part of it (especially when considering the large number of people who work long hours at low-wage jobs). I can think of many other disturbing parts of "human nature" as well, but people get put in prison for those (rape, murder, etc.). I do, however, agree that we can close the distance between the rich and poor, especially if Washington politicians ease up on their hypocrisy.

I like you line about McDonald's. You make a very strong point.

I completely agree with you. I believe that teachers have to work way too hard and obtain a high degree of education to do their jobs. It takes more work than some people realize.

Your very right about additional funding. It doesn't seem to matter what public school children attend, they are always lacking funding in some area, usually a very important one. Every one seems to forget its about the children not the Federal Checkbook of America.

I agree with your statement about closing the gap! I like your post alot...especially the Mcdonald's line. It really emphasizes how much teachers are,a lot of the times, unappreciated and underpaid.
