Erin Brockovich-Ellis

On October 2nd at 8pm, I went to Erin Brockovich's speech at the LJB Student Center Mall. I could not believe all the people that were come out to see her talk. It seemed like the entire freshmen class was there and then some. I really enjoyed listening to her talk about her life and her movie. I have not yet seen her movie appropriately titled “Erin Brockovich,” but I definitely plan to watch it after listening to her story. She talked about the parts in the movie that were not accurate and funny little background stories about how she was even given the opportunity to have a movie about her. She told us about how her and her boss had a conversation before the casting of the movie about who would play her and he said he just didn’t want Julia Roberts playing her, which of course is who ended up being picked as the actress to play her in the movie. She told about how her son, who is now 24 and married, thought the whole point of the movie, was to get him dates. Also, she talked about how many people say that her accident was what changed her life, but she says it was the way she reacted to it that changed her life for the better. Her whole message of the speech was to talk about not letting other people define who you are. She said that people always labeled her as the smart underachiever.

I think we all sometimes feel "mis-labled." Thanks for writing about this. I didn't get a chance to go see it.

Good response. This just goes to demonstrate the foolishness of underestimating people.
